TULIP TIME FESTIVAL

Graphic Design 1 Studio | Brand Identity & Research

In my Graphic Design 1 course, I redesigned the brand identity for the Tulip Time Festival in Holland, Michigan, which celebrates tulips, Dutch heritage, and community. My goal was to create a brand identity that is both unique and authentic, reflecting the festival's core values while also giving it a modern feel.

I created a revised brand system including a wordmark, color palette, and visual systems accompanied by applications of the new brand. Through this project and research, I was able to explore and recognize the elements that contribute to a visually captivating identity.

RESEARCH

Mission Statement
Tulip Time Festival welcomes the world into our community by celebrating the shared love for tulips, Dutch heritage, and Holland.

Vibrant, Youthful, Welcoming, & Generational

History
The idea of Tulip Time was first introduced in 1927 at a Women’s Literary Club meeting. In 1928, because of the Women’s Literary Club, City Council purchased 100,000 tulip bulbs from the Netherlands.

In 1929, the bulbs that were planted in the city parks and other areas bloomed and Holland invited visitors to come during the first week of May.

DIGITAL WORDMARK & ICONOGRAPHY
Combining type and icons to create a wordmark that represents the Tulip Time Festival. Created hand-drawn sketches which were then translated into digital vectors.

COLOR STUDY & SELECTED WORDMARK
A wordmark that embodies a modern design, contributing to the portrayal of Tulip Time Festival as youthful, lively, and family-oriented.
